Hello, I'm Michael Smith, author, historian, translator and linocut printmaker.
I translate mediaeval romances and then I illustrate them with my own linocut prints. My particular interest is in the English alliterative poems of the fourteenth century because I love their form, their art and their hidden messages.
My translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight was published in 2018 and will be followed in February 2021 by my translation of the Alliterative Morte Arthure. I am currently crowdfunding a translation of William of Palerne - William and the Werewolf; if you would like to support this new book, please click here.
