Medieval romances are rich in contemporary detail; hunting is a frequent feature. Whether Bertilak hunting the boar in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight or Bevis slaying the boar in Sir Bevis of Hampton, boars are seen as a worthy opponent of any lord.

This print features a medieval boar hunter on horseback wielding a powerful broad-bladed boar-sword ready for action. But, as can be seen, the boar has other plans for him! A black and white version of this print appears as an illustration in Michael's translation of Sir Gawain.

It is hand printed on 250 gsm Somerset Velvet Paper on a 19th Century Albion Press in 4 colours, printed from 4 different plates and signed and edition by the artist. Printed area: 12" x 12"; paper size approx twice as much again.

One of variable edition of 2.

Michael Smith's translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight was published in 2018. To learn more and to purchase your own signed copy, please click here.
