This hand-pulled linocut print by Michael Smith is one of a series showing historic monuments in their landscape. It features the Craw Stane, a Pictish monument at Rhynie in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
The Craw Stane is features an incised image of a fish and a Pictish beast or kelpie. Set in its highland landscape, the stone reminds us of the power and culture of the Picts, a people who thrived in the highlands for over six centuries but who are now all but lost to written record.
