This print, one of a series showing historic monuments in their landscape, features the three warriors carved into the mysterious Birsay stone at the Brough of Birsay on Orkney.
A Pictish beast, typical of many such carvings in the north east of Scotland, emerges from the water to greet the three warriors.
It is hand printed on 250 gsm Somerset Velvet Paper on a 19th Century Albion Press in 4 colours, printed from 4 different plates and signed and edition by the artist. Printed area: 12" x 12"; paper size approx twice as much again.
