Jelling Battle is inspired by the famous Jelling Stone in Denmark, a monument seen a fundamental to Danish identity and the formation of the Danish state. Taken from 'Side B' of the stone, the image depicts a stylised serpent attacking a lion; the print is overlaid over runic text to give extra layers to the image and create a sense of unity with the distant past.
The print is hand printed on fabric-based 250 gsm Somerset Velvet on a 19th Century Albion Press in 4 colours, printed from 4 different plates and signed and edition by the artist. Printed area: 12" x 12"; paper size approx twice as much again. For more information about the hand-printing process, please click here.
One of variable edition of 3.
