This original linocut print of the Oseberg Dragon Post is based upon the astonishing craftsmanship revealed in the excavations from the Oseberg ship in Norway. More likely featuring a lion or a bear, the post is one of four found at the burial site.
The Vikings, in popular mythology associated with brutality and war, also possessed a rich artistic culture and this is perhaps best shown in the woodwork which emerged from the excavations of 1904-5. The print is the perfect accompaniment to the print of the same post finished in red.
One of variable edition of 5, hand printed on a Victorian Albion Press in Cambridgeshire, UK. Signed and editioned by the artist and printed on 250 gsm Somerset Velvet Paper. The printed part of the image measures approximately 6 x 6 inches (15 x 15cm).
