This original linocut print, one of a series showing historic monuments in their landscape, features the Cerne Abbas Giant in the county of Dorset. The Giant has baffled historians and archaeologists for centuries with various theories describing him as Hercules, some form of 17th Century satirical creation and even an insult to the local abbey.
Whatever his origins, he remains one of the iconic chalk-cut figures in the English landscape.
It is hand printed on 250 gsm Somerset Velvet Paper on a 19th Century Albion Press in 3 colours, printed from 3 different plates and signed and edition by the artist. Printed area: 12" x 12"; paper size approx twice as much again.
One of variable edition of 3.
